Czechoslovakia was a central European country (1918-1992) formed after World War I from parts of Austria-Hungary, comprising Czech lands (Bohemia, Moravia) and Slovakia, plus Carpatho-Ukraine briefly. It experienced democracy, Nazi occupation, Soviet rule, and the Velvet Revolution, before peacefully dissolving on January 1, 1993, into the independent Czech Republic and Slovakia, a split known as the Velvet Divorce.
